Adding a book
What kind of book works?
Picture books you own, in any language. Photograph the cover first, then each open page, one page turn at a time. Pages with no words are kept as silent pages, so the chime still tells your child to turn over.
A photo came out sideways or blurry
Open Your photos while you are photographing, tap the page, then choose Retake this page or Turn. A retaken page keeps its page number.
I missed a page
Photograph it at the end, then drag it into its place in Your photos.
Voices
How do I record someone?
On the book’s screen, choose Record a voice. The person reads one page at a time, starting with the title. You can stop at any time; what is recorded is saved, and you can continue later.
Can someone record from their own phone?
Not yet. Everyone records on the phone the app is on.
Which books can the AI voice read?
Books printed in English. For any other language, record someone reading. On Android the AI voice uses Google’s speech engine on your phone; if the app says the phone needs its voice, follow the steps it shows.
Some words sound wrong
For a book whose words the app read, open the book’s screen and choose Fix the words. The AI voice updates the pages you change. For a recorded voice, the app shows you which pages to read again.
Plus and free books
How do free books work?
Your first 3 books are free, then you get 1 free book each month. A free book is used when a book first reaches your child’s bookshelf. Unused free books don’t carry over to the next month.
I bought Plus on a new phone, or after reinstalling
Open Settings → Membership → Restore purchases, signed in to the same Google Play account you used to buy Plus.
How do I cancel Plus?
Plus is a subscription with Google Play. Cancel it in the Google Play app: your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Every book you made stays on the bookshelf.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Google Play. If Plus is refunded, it ends, and your books stay.
Your books and your data
Keeping a copy
Settings → Your data → Export a copy makes one file of your books and recordings. Save it somewhere safe, such as your computer or your own cloud storage.
Deleting everything
Settings → Your data → Delete everything. The app asks you twice, because recordings can’t be brought back. Removing the app also deletes everything it kept.
